Apple brings OS updates to older models of iPhone, iPad and MacBook – Times of India

Apple has a good track record when it comes to offering OS updates to older devices. If you have an Apple device, then chances are that you are sorted for at least five years of OS updates. For example, iPhone 6 — launched in 2014 — got at least six years of regular updates. The same is true for older MacBook models as well as they get minimum of 5 years of updates. After that, OS updates are not as frequent. However, now Apple has rolled out updates for devices that are running older OS versions.

iPhone, iPad, MacBook: All get updates

According to a report by Apple Insider, the updates Apple has rolled out to older versions are —iOS 12.5.7, iOS 15.7.3, iPadOS 15.7.3, macOS Big Sur 11.7.3, and macOS Monterey 12.6.3.
Do keep in mind that these updates are meant for those who have older devices and can’t update to newer versions. As expected, the OS updates bring security patches and fix certain bugs that might be affecting the devices.
The iPhone 5s, which is the oldest device and supports iOS 12.5.7 can be updated. Notably, the iPhone 5s was launched in September 2013, which means that even nine years later Apple is giving it some sort of update.
As far as MacBooks are concerned, the oldest devices that support macOS Big Sure are MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, which were launched in 2013.
Meanwhile, for newer devices, Apple has rolled out iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3 and macOS Ventura 13.2. All updates bring a few new features and several bug fixes to the devices. In case you are wondering, iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 is available for iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.
