Apple could announce AR/MR headset in January 2023, claims tech analyst – Times of India

Apple could announce its mixed reality headset in January 2023, noted tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed in a new research note, as per a report by 9To5Mac. According to Kuo, investors are not overly enthusiastic about mixed reality tech but Apple may be able to assuage the concerns of the investors and enhance their confidence in mixed reality products with its headset.
“However, this investment theme has not become a clear market consensus due to doubts about innovative user experience and low shipments of less than 1.5 million units in 2023. Apple may announce the AR/MR headset as soon as January 2023. This media event is expected to reduce investors’ concerns about innovative user experience and low shipment in 2023, and enhance their confidence in the headset’s outlook”, Kuo reportedly said.
According to the Apple analyst, the headset from the company will be a niche product in its first generation atleast and will probably launch with a price tag in the range of $2000-2500. Go higher than this price range and it might affect the shipments, he said.
The potential success the mixed reality headset holds has also been considered by the tech analyst. Kuo says that the Apple AR/MR headset will be the company’s “next revolutionary consumer electronics product after the iPhone.”
The device is still to hit the markets but Kuo also added that after the first generation AR/MR headset which would test the waters, Apple has plans for a more affordable version by 2025. Plus, there is an AR-only headset in the making too which might be announced around 2024.
The investors may be a little sceptical about the future of mixed reality but the launch of the Apple headset could change that, triggering a domino effect, which could cause a boom in production of mixed reality headset by rivals.
