Apple could release the first Macbook with an OLED screen next year | Digit

According to a report published by MacRumors, Apple may be gearing up to release its first MacBook equipped with an OLED display by next year. The report is based on tweets posted by Ming-Chi Kuo, a known supply chain analyst who frequently leaks information about Apple. Kuo also stated that the OLED technology ensures that the MacBooks can be lighter and thinner, and you can bet that this will be another selling point for the device.

What are the current MacBook displays?

Currently, MacBooks are equipped with LCD panels. The newest 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pros come with mini-LED backlighting along with ProMotion technology to offer a bright and vibrant display. However, this can’t match the power of OLED displays as the latter have self-emitting pixels that have no need for backlighting. This will ensure that the new MacBooks will offer a stronger contrast along with longer battery life.

Which Apple MacBook model will have an OLED Display?

At this moment, Kuo has not confirmed whether the OLED display would be available in the AIr model or the Pro one. Analyst Ross Young did say that Apple wants to introduce a new 13-inch MacBook Air that comes with an OLED panel, and perhaps we can assume based on this that Kuo is also referring to an Air model. Ross Young also believes that Apple will launch new 11.1-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models that will come with OLED displays next year.

We may also see Apple iPads make the transition to OLED displays. However, the same cannot be said about the Apple Watch – the company is planning to create microLED displays for the same.
