Apple Deals on Black Friday 2021: our expectations

Best Black Friday deals on iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 is the “regular” iPhone — the one that Apple markets to the masses. It comes in a few fun colors, has the same hardware as the Pro — save for a slightly downgraded camera — and the same size as the Pro. This year’s base iPhone is still stuck at 60 Hz refresh rate, which has tech fans irked, and it doesn’t offer significant upgrades over the iPhone 12, except for a slightly improved battery life. In other words — if you can find a better deal on an iPhone 12, jump on it and don’t feel like you missed out.

Best Black Friday deals on iPhone 13 mini

Just like the iPhone 13, the 13 mini doesn’t offer a huge upgrade over its predecessor. However, the jump in battery life here is actually meaningful, because last year’s iPhone 12 mini wasn’t exactly a battery champ. Also, it is rumored that Apple is planning to do away with the mini line, so the iPhone 13 mini might be your last chance to jump on the munchkin train.

So, if that’s the case, buying an iPhone 13 mini might actually be much more worth it, and we expect some massive discounts for it to pop up at large stores and carriers.

Best Black Friday deals on iPhone 12 series

Last year’s iPhone 12 series are not to be underestimated — they are still very viable options if you want to save a bit of cash. And whoever owns one will testify they are in no rush to upgrade. Furthermore, it’s much more probable that we will get the really deep deals for a year-old model, than the newly-released iPhone 13 series. So, we will be keeping a close eye on the iPhone 12 deals and updating the list as we fish them out. You just follow along with us!

Best Black Friday deals on iPhone SE

The last time the iPhone SE was upgraded was in 2020. It’s still a fairly fresh model and we don’t see Apple upgrading it again any time soon, but it has already been through the deals and discounts ringer, consistently getting massive price slashes.

It’s a great option if you are looking for an affordable iPhone — either as a backup, a test unit, or one to give to someone who would do better with a home button.

Best Black Friday deals on iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 is still being sold by Apple as a midranger solution, so you can rest assured it’s still being supported and considered an effective device. It comes in a range of fun colors and is the last “rounded edge” iPhone before Apple switched to the square design of the 12 series.

The iPhone 11’s drawback is the LCD screen, which also has slightly thicker bezels. Its dual cameras are also slightly worse than on subsequent models, of course, but it can still shoot pretty good photos. If you can stomach that, rest assured you will be able to find a perfectly good iPhone at a very good price, come Black Friday.

Best Black Friday deals on tablets

Apple’s tablets are certainly the most successful and sought-after slates on the market. The good news is that they cover a wide range of price tiers and are powerful enough to last you years on end. The even better news is that we expect some hefty discounts.

Apple iPad Pro deals

The iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) and iPad Pro 11 (2021) are absolute beasts, packing the very same M1 chip that the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro M1 have. The huge headroom and their speed makes them highly sought-after, though not many actually do the type of work that would warrant all that power on a tablet.

But the long and short of it is this — if you can score a deal on the iPad Pro 2021, you will be set with a good tablet for at least — at the very least — 5 years.

Apple iPad mini 6 deals

The recently-refreshed iPad mini is definitely cute — it looks like a miniature version of the iPad Air (2020), but happens to be more powerful than the Air. The mini’s size limits you in terms of multitasking and creativity, which makes it hard to recommend at its MSRP. However, if you are truly after that super-compact tablet experience, getting one at a discount will be worth it to you.

Apple iPad Air 4 (2020) deals

The 4th generation iPad Air came out swinging as an “iPad Pro killer”. And, indeed, it has the same form factor and almost the same screen size as the iPad Pro 11. Its processor is slightly less powerful and its screen doesn’t have 120 Hz ProMotion fast refresh rates. But, at least it’s reasonably priced — about to be even more reasonable when the Black Friday deals hit, for sure.

Alternatively, you can hunt for a 2020 or 2018 iPad Pro 11″ — these will perform as good as an iPad Air 4, but have 120 Hz refresh rate. More on those below.

Apple iPad deals

The base iPad 10.2 (2021) is a pretty good tablet. It usually starts at $329 and, this year, the starting storage is 64 GB. That’s nowhere near generous enough, but it’s definitely better than the abysmal 32 GB base storage we used to get before.

Base iPads usually get a default $30 discount at every sales event, making them start at $299, but sometimes we land on a surprise deal. Also, it’s a good time to shop for accessories like a keyboard or Apple Pencil for your iPad.

iPad Pro and older iPad bargains

If you are willing to dive into older models — that’s where the real bargains will be. New old stock still needs to go and we have good news for you — iPads last a while before they become obsolete.

So, if you can land an iPad Pro 2020 — don’t hesitate. These bad boys are still very good tablets that can do most of the things you need them to as well as the M1 models that succeeded them. Sure, they are a bit slower — they still look and feel good, tho. The 2018 iPad Pros are a bit long in the tooth now and can only be found in a refurbished state. But, again, if you see a deal on those — it’s worth considering. 120 Hz refresh rate, good performance, and support for the Apple Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard are still there.

An older iPad 10.2″ can also be a good buy, but be careful — base iPad models before 2021 started at 32 GB of storage. So, if you are buying the entry-level model, be sure it will hardly be something mode than a Netflix machine. For some, that’s enough. Others need at least 64 GB.

Best Apple Black Friday deals on Apple Watch

In a few short years, Apple managed to make the world’s most popular timepiece, so you can check our Black Friday Apple Watch deals preview if you will be in the market to add the best smartwatch around to your wrist, or upgrade your old Apple Watch for a newer model. Last year, there were a range of discounts across all generations available.

The newest Apple Watch looks quite flashy — we didn’t get the redesign the community was hoping for, but its bezels have been made razor-thin and it puts a lot more screen on your wrist. As for features — it’s worth upgrading to that one if you have a Series 4 or older. Otherwise, we only recommend the step up for enthusiasts and superfans.

The Series 6 was a fun generation that came in a plethora of fun colors and multiple band models. It’s still great and we will probably see a lot of deals on it, now that the Series 7 is out. If that happens to be the case, don’t hesitate — the Apple Watch Series 6 is great.

The Apple Watch SE launched alongside the Series 6 as a “more affordable version” — it doesn’t have an always-on display or the blood oxygen metering. If you can do without those features, the Apple Watch SE is sure to get some deep discounts as it is already a bit older and it used to be the “affordable version” to begin with.

Apple still sells the Watch Series 3 as a value entry model — and it often gets price slashes to draw customer’s eyes at various retailers. The model is a bit long in the tooth by now, so if you can find some new-old-stock Series 4 or above instead, it’d be better. Still, a Series 3 can do good as a backup, a “try it out” unit, a gift for a kid, or someone who would like to close their rings but doesn’t care too much about the bells and whistles of the more contemporary Watch models.

Will the new AirPods 3 be discounted at Black Friday? Likely not, but they could possibly be included in some bundle deals, especially with iPhone or Watch purchases.
