Apple halts iPhone 14 Plus production: Report

With the iPhone 14 series, Apple brought back the ‘Plus’ model, replacing the ‘mini’ after two years of its run since it could not find as many takers. Well, the same seems to be happening with the recently announced iPhone 14 Plus as Apple reportedly holds back the production of the newly launched bigger iPhone 14 Plus.
Citing supply chain sources, The Information reports that Apple has halted the iPhone 14 Plus production merely two weeks after it went on sale. The report notes that the Cupertino giant has told one of the manufacturers in China to put a hold on the component manufacturing for the iPhone 14 Plus while the company revaluates the demand. Meanwhile, two other suppliers have reportedly cut back on the component assembly by 90 per cent.
Contrary to the iPhone 14 Plus production cut, the suppliers have been instructed to ramp up the component production for the ‘Pro’ models – iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Last month, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the ‘Pro’ iPhone 14 models – iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – are faring much better in pre-orders than the ‘non-Pro’ iPhone 14 models – iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
As per Kuo’s note, pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Pro were “neutral,” while the iPhone 14 Pro Max received a “good” response during pre-orders, surpassing the demand for last year’s iPhone 13 Pro Max. In comparison, the pre-order numbers for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus were rated as “bad.”
In the note, Kuo noted that the demand for the ‘Plus’ model was lower than that of the iPhone 13 mini, which got shelved due to lower demand. And interestingly, the initial demand for the iPhone 14 Plus was even poorer than the iPhone SE 3, as per Kuo.
