Apple may increase production in India by thrice the currency amount. The company expects that the production will increase within the next 2 years.
Apple is going to increase iPhone production in India by 3x, as per a new report. The company plans to achieve this new target within the next two years. This will allow the tech giant to deliver its supply chain in order to prevent disruptions in manufacturing and sales, as has been the case lately due to worker protests in China.
Apple to scale production in India
According to the report shared by MacRumours, Apple has directed its biggest suppliers, namely Wistron, Pegatron, and Foxconn, to increase the overall manpower and production capacity in India.
Foxconn recently invested a whopping $500 million in its India subsidiary to ensure it can meet the new targets set by Apple. JP Morgan reported that Apple wants to manufacture at least a quarter of its iPhones in the country in 2025. They further reported that Vietnam will handle 20% of Apple Watch and iPad production, 65% of AirPods production, and 5% of MacBook production by 2025.
Ming-Chi Kuo, a known Apple analyst, reported that Apple wants 40-45% of iPhones to be produced in India.
Why is Apple planning to increase production in India?
Covid-19 restrictions in China have caused major disruptions at Foxconn’s main plant, leading to a shortage of the Apple iPhone 14. Commenting on the same, the company said “We are working closely with our supplier to return to normal production levels while ensuring the health and safety of every worker,”.
