Apple is bringing back this battery feature after 5 years – Times of India
Do you hate swiping to the control centre to check the battery percentage on your iPhone? Well, we may have some good news for you. With the latest developer beta of iOS 16, i.e. developer beta 5, released today, Apple has brought back the battery percentage to the status bar, taking their sweet time of five years.
If you remember, the battery percentage was earlier shown beside the battery icon. But, it had to be removed in 2017 with the introduction of the notch in the iPhones since there was not much space to cram percentage besides other information. Starting with iPhone X or iOS 12, users need to pull down the control centre to check the battery percentage. But not anymore, at least for those running the iOS 16 developer beta.
In the iOS 16 developer beta, Apple has put the battery percentage within the battery icon. But, it is not enabled by default, and to enable it, you will have to go to Settings, then Battery, and turn on the “Battery Percentage” toggle. And you will see a tad bigger battery icon showing you the current battery percentage.
Interestingly, it also changes colour; when plugged in, it turns green and shows a lighting icon and yellow when your iPhone is in Low Power Mode. And it adapts to the Light and Dark mode. So, the battery icon turns black in the Light mode and white in the Dark mode.
However, there is a catch. The option to see your battery percentage in the status bar is not available on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini. And we do not know why. It is great to have this option back after so long but we are not sure if this will ever make it to the final release or not.
