Apple is no longer selling Apple TV HD but will offer software support

Apple announced new iPad models and the new generation Apple TV 4K in a soft launch. The 2022 model of the Apple TV 4K gets new capabilities such as HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. With the inclusion of these advanced video formats in its new device, it seems the Cupertino-based tech giant is looking to stop selling the older, fourth-generation Apple TV HD.
Apple has removed Apple TV HD models from the company’s official stores, however, the company will continue offering software updates for Apple TV HD and all models released after it as they run tvOS 16. There is no information on whether Apple will stop releasing new versions of tvOS for Apple TV HD.

Apple TV HD: Things to know
Introduced in 2015, the fourth-generation Apple TV model, the Apple TV HD, is the first model to run tvOS. The tvOS is based on iOS and it is the first operating system that brought the App Store with third-party apps on Apple TV. Apple TV HD gets the A8 chip paired with 2GB of RAM and offers Siri Remote with a touchpad and motion sensors.
At that time, the Siri Remote was one of the highlights of the fourth-generation Apple TV as older models didn’t support it. Moreover, Apple TV HD was updated with a new Siri Remote in 2021.
Apple TV 4K: Things to know
Apple announced the first Apple TV that supports 4K HDR content in 2017. The first Apple TV 4K model came powered by the A10X Fusion chip. In 2021, this model was later replaced by a newer model that boasted the A12 Bionic chip and a redesigned Siri Remote.

Meanwhile, the latest Apple TV 4K features the A15 Bionic chip which claims to be 50% faster than its predecessor. The newest model also has a new Siri Remote that has replaced the Lightning port with USB-C charging support. Apple TV 4K 2022 offers storage capacities of up to 128GB and the base model of the device starts at Rs 14,900.
