Apple likely to go ‘Extreme’ with its M2 chipset lineup – Times of India

Apple has been making several iterations of its base chip based on different devices. For instance, Apple introduced the M1 Pro, M1 Max and M1 Ultra for MacBook Pro laptops and the new Mac Studio. Basically, Apple keeps revamping its chip to cater to different types of users and power different types of devices. Macworld has done some research and based on the journey of the M1 chip lineup, it has been reported that Apple may launch a new ‘Extreme’ version of the M2 chip next year that is likely to power a new Mac Pro desktop.
According to the report, Apple will most likely introduce the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in the coming months which will power the next generation of MacBook devices. The report claims that there will be a high-performance chip and Apple is expected to go beyond the ‘Ultra’ branding with the M2 lineup.
As per the report, Apple is speculated to launch the M2 Extreme chip and Macworld has noticed that Apple doubled down the spec sheet to offer better performance. For instance, the regular M2 comes with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, the M2 Pro will likely offer up to a 10-core CPU and 20-core GPU with 48GB RAM support and the M2 Max is expected to arrive with a 40-Core GPU and 96GB RAM support. Following that trend, the M2 Extreme, according to Macworld, will offer a 48-core CPU and 160-core GPU with up to 384GB of RAM support.
A redesigned Mac Pro is also in the works with Jade 2C-Die and Jade 4C-Die codenames and the M2 Extreme chip is likely to power the new Mac Pro.
It is important to note that all the information here should be taken with a pinch of salt as Apple hasn’t announced or confirmed anything about the M2 Extreme chipset and the redesigned Mac Pro.
