Apple makes a change to the much-wanted battery indicator with iOS 16.1 beta update – Times of India

With the roll out of iOS 16, Apple reintroduced its five year old battery indicator feature. For those unaware, the battery percentage was earlier shown beside the battery icon. But it had to be removed in 2017 with the introduction of the notch in the iPhones since there was not much space to cram percentage besides other information. Starting with iPhone X or iOS 12, users need to pull down the control center to check the battery percentage. However, since the roll out of iOS 16, many users were not happy with the design of the battery indicator. Now, it appears that Apple has addressed this issue with the second beta of iOS 16.1.
Apple has released the second beta of iOS 16.1 today. With the new beta update, the company has tweaked the design of the battery indicator. Starting today, the beta users will now notice that the battery level icon will deplete with the draining battery offering a better visual experience to the user. Along with this, if the percentage feature is enabled then users will see the charge number as the battery charges and depleted.

“Battery percent was not present on iPhones that have ‌‌Face ID‌‌ in iOS 15 because of the lack of space on either side of the notch that houses the TrueDepth camera hardware, but Apple’s updated ‌iOS 16‌ design added the specific battery level to the battery icon,” mentions a report by MacRumors.
The report also reveals that with the second beta Apple has also made some changes to the design of the charging indicator on the Lock Screen. Users will now see the battery percentage briefly above the time which they plugin their iPhone into a charger.
