Apple may bring a touch-enabled MacBook Pro for users

For years now, users have been crying out loud for a touchscreen MacBook. Apple hadn’t obliged. In 2021, one senior Apple executive was asked about a touchscreen Mac and he said that the iPad Pro is the “world’s best touch computer”. However, it appears that Apple may finally budge from its stance and launch a touch-enabled MacBook.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is working on the possibility of making a MacBook that comes with a touchscreen. As per the report, Apple’s plans of launching a touch-enabled MacBook are slightly long-term and could see the light sometime in 2025. However, the timelines are still very fluid.
Apple to change the design of the MacBook?
The first touch-enabled MacBook will reportedly be a MacBook Pro. It is expected to retain the traditional look and form factor. The only difference would be the display, which will “support touch input and gestures – just like an iPhone and iPad.”
That’s not the only change Apple is mulling when it comes to the screens of the MacBook. The Bloomberg report also suggests that Apple is looking to bring OLED displays to the MacBook. For many years now, Apple has continued to use LCD panels. However, both the iPhone and Apple Watch now have OLED panels. It has also been suggested that the OLED display will first come to iPad. Apple has been rumoured to put an OLED display in the iPad Pro, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2024.
Will we see macOS and iPadOS become one?
If Apple truly does move to a touchscreen MacBook, then it will be interesting what it does with the operating system. We have seen iPadOS and iOS features come in bits and pieces to macOS. However, it is unlikely that the company merges the two operating systems into one. All this at the moment is pure speculation and it remains to be seen what Apple’s plans are for a touchscreen MacBook.
