Apple may have an unwieldly giant iPad in the works

TL;DR

  • Apple is believed to be working on a brand new iPad.
  • The iPad will reportedly be around 16-inches.
  • The device may be aimed at helping the company blur the lines between tablet and laptop.

Are you a tablet user who always wished you had a device with more screen real estate? Well, Apple may be working on a new iPad that could answer your wishes.

Sources familiar with the project have told The Information that Apple is currently hard at work on creating its largest-ever iPad to date. The iPad in question is rumored to be a whopping 16-inches and the company is hoping to put it out in public sometime in the fourth quarter of next year.

For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is one of the biggest consumer tablets available on the market today. That tablet measures at 14.6-inches, so Apple’s rumored tablet would be nearly 2-inches bigger. It would also put it at nearly 3-inches bigger than its current largest tablet — the iPad Pro (fifth generation).

This report doesn’t explain how Apple plans to position the mega tablet within its iPad lineup. Will it be the new iPad Pro or will Apple give this tablet a new name? There aren’t enough details out there right now to know the answer. However, the report does say, “The device would further blur the line between the iPad and MacBook, bringing the tablet’s screen size in line with that of Apple’s largest laptop.”

We also don’t know anything about how much the device would cost. The current 12.9-inch iPad Pro (fifth generation) costs about $1,100. We can imagine that this new tablet will likely cost a lot more than that.
