Apple may hold off Mac Studio refresh for the upcoming Mac Pro

It has been almost a year since Apple introduced the Mac Studio. It is well due for an update, but unlike other Macs that are updated with the M2 series chips, the Mac Studio may not be refreshed this year with M2 series chips or not even be updated for a few years to come.
Mark Gurman, in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, notes that there might not be a new Mac Studio this year because of the Apple Silicon-powered Mac Ultra, which is expected to come out this year.
Gurman notes that the upcoming Apple Silicon Mac Pro will be very similar to the Mac Studio in terms of functionality since the Mac Pro is expected to be powered by the M2 Ultra.
If refreshed, the Mac Studio would come with the M2 Pro and M2 Ultra, successor to the M1 Pro and M2 Ultra. As per Gurman, having two M2 Ultra-powered will not make much sense. That is why we may not see a new Mac Studio this year, or at least for a few years to come until the new generations of Apple Silicon come out.
Apple Silicon Mac Pro may come out this year
Apple’s Mac Pro is the last of Intel-powered Macs, which is on sale even today for the same price it launched back in 2019.
Mark Gurman had earlier suggested that Apple would complete its transition to in-house chips with the Mac Pro this year, which would come with the M2 Ultra. Though do not expect some major redesign as it is expected to keep the old design as the one that launched in 2019.
The Mac Pro was earlier said to be powered by the M2 Extreme – which was said to be two M2 Ultras in one piece of silicon. But, the chip was shelved over production issues.
Gurman notes that the new Mac Studio could come when Apple finds better ways to differentiate between the Mac Studio and Pro.
