Apple may launch first foldable iPhone in 2024 – Times of India

Apple is reportedly not planning to launch a foldable smartphone anytime soon. Although the tech giant is not known to reveal any details about its upcoming devices, numerous leaks reveal key information about the devices that the company is working on and so far, we have only seen a few reports around a foldable smartphone from Apple. Now, a report by analyst Ross Young suggests that the company is not expected to launch a foldable iPhone until 2023. He also mentions that 2024 is a more likely target date for a foldable device from the company.
According to previous reports by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is working on a foldable iPhone with an 8-inch flexible OLED display. Several reports also suggest that the company is working with LG Display for the foldable device. It is also said that Apple’s first foldable smartphone will sport a clamshell design just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 which was launched by the company this year. Rumours also suggest that the company will add a stylus with the device. Apple is also said to be working on using treated Ceramic Shield glass for the foldable iPhone that can withstand the folding and unfolding.
Samsung Display is one of the biggest suppliers of OLED panels for iPhones and with prior experience in making foldable OLED panels, it is also expected that Apple may tie up with the Korean tech giant for its first foldable device.
Apple has also reportedly got the patent for an all-glass device approved by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). The all-glass device, which could very well be an iPhone, has been termed as an “Electronic device with glass enclosure” by the company and since its entire body is made of transparent glass, all six flat surfaces on the body can be used as displays.
