Apple may release an upgraded iPhone 16 Ultra in 2024 – TechEngage

As the smartphone industry lacks innovation, tech giants are luring consumers with gimmicky features. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Fold series may have innovative displays but is unable to make any meaningful use of the foldable screens yet.

Similarly, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra has no significant change from S22 Ultra, but only an upgrade from a 108MP camera to a 200MP sensor.

As reported by Bloomberg, a new larger iPhone model than the Pro Max variants is planned for 2024. The report says that Apple is looking to expand its iPhone lineup with an Ultra model as the internal discussions suggest.

“Apple has internally discussed adding a higher-end iPhone to the top of its smartphone lineup.”

The report also says that Apple CEO, Tim Cook acknowledged the importance of the iPhone in people’s lives in an earnings call. He also said that “the price increase is no problem” at all.

“I think people are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category.”

iPhone is now an “integral” part of people’s daily routines, as it is used to make payments, control smart-home appliances, manage their health, and store banking data, he added.

While iPhone becoming an “integral part” of people’s lives is true, it’s still unclear how consumers would react to an Ultra iPhone with a higher price tag. However, the Apple Watch Ultra sales suggest that there’s still a significant market for premium tech gadgets even though the highest-priced iPhone 14 Pro Max model now costs $1,600, much higher than 2017’s iPhone X with 256GB storage.

This argument strengthens rumors that the company might be looking into launching an iPhone Ultra with a higher price and significant upgrades like no ports, no notch display, more robust build quality (just like Apple Watch Ultra), and a larger battery. The smartphone giant has already introduced Apple Watch Ultra and M1 Ultra chips for the next-gen Apple Silicone. So, it’s highly possible that the iPhone 16 could carry the “Ultra” moniker with a higher price tag.
