Apple October Event: What time does stream start, how to watch ‘Unleashed’ MacBook event?

Apple will host a blockbuster hardware event tonight. Teased with the cryptic tagline “Unleashed”, the event will kick off very soon. It follows hot on the heels of the major September event, which revealed the iPhone 13 line-up, as well as the Apple Watch Series 7. While Apple, as always, has remained tight-lipped about what we’re likely to see during the October event, tipsters suggest that we’ll see new MacBook Pro models as well as an upgraded Mac mini and third-generation AirPods.

For those who want to stream in the UK, Apple’s October 2021 event kicks off at 6pm BST. If you’re in the United States, you’ll need to load-up the stream from 10am Pacific Time and 1pm Eastern Time. If you’re based in mainland Europe, Apple’s Unleashed keynote event has a start time of 7pm CEST.

As with previous Apple events, the best way to enjoy the stream, which will be presented by CEO Tim Cook and a number of other executives from the Californian firm, is with the Safari web browser. Apple preinstalls its Safari web browser on all of its iPhone, iPad and Mac devices by default. The livestream is available on the Apple website here.

If you don’t use the Safari browser, or would like to Cast the event to a Chromecast, Apple doesn’t limit itself to the Safari-only stream (as it did for many years). It now opens up its keynote events to a wider audience via a YouTube broadcast.

If you have an Apple TV, there is a specific Events app that is available to download and install on the set-top box. This will offer a crisp High Definition stream of the keynote event on the big screen.

The biggest announcement expected to take place today is the reveal of a new MacBook Pro line-up.

The 2021 MacBook Pro range is widely-tipped to come in 14- and 16-inch screen sizes. Powering these expansive new screens will be the the M1 Pro and M1X, which will offer faster performance than the M1 currently found in the MacBook Pro, sources say.

Elsewhere, the redesigned MacBook Pros are also expected to ditch the Touch Bar, re-introduce MagSafe charging (which connects the charger with a magnet and can detach safely from the laptop if someone trips over the cable) and have have higher-resolution mini-LED displays. The SD card slot and an HDMI port could also return on the new MacBook Pro models after missing in action for years.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the MacBook Pros also boast the same colourful schemes seen on the recent iMac range, or if Apple will simply stick to the current metallic silver or space grey designs.
