NEW DELHI: Apple unveiled its first smartwatch in 2014. However that wasn’t the first time Apple got associated with a a watch. Seiko made the first watch called WristMac for Apple and now it is up for auction on CosmicConnect website. The rare watch has garnered 27 bids till now with $800 as the highest amount.
The WristMac was considered to be ahead of its time and was sold as an early Macintosh accessory. The website mentions that the box in which WristMac is available includes the registration cars which was never filled out, a tutorial and reference manual, a floppy disc which contains the watch’s official software.
ComicConnect website also posted some photos of the watch and wrote, “In 1988, Ex Machina, Inc. and Seiko came together to release the Wrist Mac, a programmable watch that connected to a Macintosh computer. The Wrist Mac could store telephone numbers, set alarms for both one-time use and recurring daily and weekly uses, and take notes, which could then be exported to a disk as a text file.”
“This is an extremely rare and obscure piece of tech history, and an incredible find for collectors, investors, and Apple fans. It has rarely been seen since its inception over 30 years ago, and it will likely be years before another one comes to auction anywhere. This is a can’t-miss piece of computer history”, adds the website.
ComicConnect further mentioned that in 1991, astronauts aboard the Atlantis space shuttle wore the WristMac to coordinate with the Macintosh Portable and Apple Link software.
Recently, a super-rate Apple-l computer, hand built by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, was sold at an auction and fetched $500,000 (about Rs 3.7 crore), as per a report. More than doubling its $200,000 starting bid, the Apple-I Personal Computer was bought by a professor at Chaffey College in 1976. The Apple-I was famously originally sold for $666.66, or the equivalent of approximately $3,211 in 2021 money, reports AppleInsider.
That original price is therefore 0.64 per cent of the half million dollars achieved at its auction by John Moran Auctioneers and Appraisers, in Monrovia, California, as per the report.
