Apple reportedly in talks with Hollywood directors to create VR content for its upcoming mixed reality headset
Apple is all geared up for this year’s WWDC. We might not get the much-awaited headset, but it is going to be Apple’s next big thing and surely a huge part of the keynote. While we expect Apple to give us a first look at the software running its upcoming headset, the Cupertino giant has already started working on the content library for its much-rumoured mixed reality headset. It is being reported that Apple is working with some big Hollywood names to create content for the headset, and one of them is Jon Favreau.
Jon Favreau’s Prehistoric Planet might be one of the first series’ for the Apple headset
New York Times reports that Apple is working with Hollywood directors to create video content for its upcoming mixed reality headset, allegedly known as Apple Headset. Reportedly, the Cupertino giant has roped in Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who has also directed The Mandalorian, for an upcoming series for the headset based on Prehistoric Planet, an Apple TV+ limited series, which had Favreau as an executive producer. There is no word on who else we can expect on board with Apple, but Favreau might show up with his dinosaurs in your Apple headset in 2023.
No headset this year; Just the tools to enable app development for the headset
The publication further reports that Apple will be showcasing the tools that will enable the development of new apps for its upcoming headset, and the actual headset might not come anytime before 2023. The development tools will let app developers add camera and app functionality to their apps, enabling hands-free control before the headset arrives on the market. As per NYT’s sources, Apple is having trouble with the headset’s battery life and performance. The report further mentions that some employees involved in the headset’s development left the company over the implications the headset would have in the future on personal human relationships.
The headset looks like ski-googles and will have the horsepower of a Mac
We have not seen the headset, but the headset looks like a pair of ski goggles, as per the sources. The headset is said to offer augmented reality and virtual reality experiences. And according to previous leaks, it might be as powerful as the Mac.
