Apple Watch detects pregnancy before clinical testings: Report – Times of India
How Apple Watch detected pregnancy
Apple Watch has no official feature to detect pregnancy, yet it helped its user to identify that something was unusual with their body. The 34-year-old user has shared her story on Reddit (first spotted by 9to5Mac) to reveal how the wearable helped her in detecting pregnancy.
At first, the Apple Watch notified the user that her average resting heart rate had increased by a significant amount in the last few days, which made her suspicious. The user mentioned that the Apple Watch showed that her resting heart rate has increased from 57 to 72 beats per minute.
An increase in heart rate can be caused by multiple reasons. Firstly, the user thought that she was attacked by the Covid-19 virus as it is one of the symptoms. However, the Covid test came out negative and the user didn’t show any signs of a common cold as well.
Later on, she found some articles on the internet that mentioned that pregnant women can also experience increased heart rate in the initial weeks of pregnancy. A doctor confirmed that the user was pregnant for four weeks after she went to a clinic to get herself tested. So, simply by showing the change in average heart rate, the Apple Watch helped its owner to detect pregnancy.
Other Apple Watch features designed for women users
The Apple Watch also offers other features that are aimed at women users. For example, the Cycle Tracking app available on Apple Watch helps users to record details about their menstrual cycle.
Moreover, Apple also added a body temperature sensor to the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra models. This new sensor offers improved period predictions and ovulation estimates based on temperature changes during sleep.
