The Apple Watch Series 7 was unveiled alongside the new iPhone 13 series at the September event. While the iPhones have gone on sale from today, there has been no confirmation of the date the Apple Watch is coming to stores, only an assurance that it would hit the markets later this fall. Meanwhile, a report by MacRumours has claimed that the Watch Series 7 will come with a secret 60.5GHz wireless connection capability to transfer data. The report is based on the FCC documents on the same. If it’s true, this would be the first time an Apple product is going to launch with such a feature.

As per the FCC filings, the 60.5GHz transmitter requires a “proprietary Wireless Serial Dock” with a corresponding module for data transfer. The dock is shown to have a model number “A2687” in the document. It says that the dock comes with a USB Type-C port and uses magnetic alignment to “lock the Apple Watch in place on top.”

This means that this external dock would be needed to activate the data transmission on the Apple Watch and hence, make the feature work. To be able to activate the 60.5GHz wireless connection for transferring data, the Apple Watch would need to be placed over this magnetic dock which also has a corresponding 60.5GHz module. It may be the case that the feature is only reserved to be used by Apple employees and not by the general consumer.

The report claims that this wireless connection at 60.5GhZ could transfer data at up to 480MBps speeds like that seen with USB 2.0.
