Apple Watch Series 7 is official: The most dramatic design change so far
***This story is developing. More details are being continuously added to the article…
Apple Watch 7 design and specs
Just like its predecessors, the Apple Watch 7 is available in two size versions – 41mm and a 45mm ones, up from 40 and 44mm on previous Apple Watch versions.
The most notable change in the Apple Watch is its case itself. Gone is the classic curved case that’s been defining Apple’s wearable ever since the very first Apple Watch and closely followed the iPhone 6/7/8 design language with its slightly curved frame. The rotating crown and the side button have remained unchanged, but even Apple knows that you should never change a winning team.
Taking design cues from the latest iPhone and iPad design language, which calls back to the iPhone 4 era and features straight frames and mostly right angles, the Apple Watch Series 7 welcomes a new industrial design language that’s bold and expressive. Still, the actual edges have a little curve to them so as not to dig into the wearer’s skin and cause a discomfort.
Not only is the case of the wearable more angular and flat, but so is the display, which previously had a slight curve to it. Thanks to the flatter design, Apple has managed to put an ever-so-slightly larger display that makes good use of the extra space. Actually, the 45mm Apple Watch comes with the largest display ever fitted on an Apple Watch, measuring up at 1.8 inches.
The Apple Watch Series 7 is compatible with existing Apple Watch band despite the design change, which is great news for those already deeply invested into the ecosystem.
On the inside, the Watch Series 7 also has a new S7 chipset that would ensure the watch’s speedy and snappy performance. It uses a double-sided manufacturing technology and has a notably smaller footprint than the chipset found in the Apple Watch Series 6, for example. This opens up additional real estate for other vital components, which is critical in such a cramped up and claustrophobic space.
Apple Watch 7 watch faces
New Apple Watches usually introduce a couple of new watchfaces to complement the Apple Watch’s vast selection. The Apple Watch Series 7 isn’t an exception and features a couple of new watchfaces that make justice to its large and beautiful OLED display.
Apple Watch 7 battery life
The Apple Watch Series 7 promises better battery life as it has a larger battery cell than its predecessor. The faster S7 chipset also holds the potential for better battery backup, as it is more efficient than the chipset found on the Series 6.
Apple Watch 7 fitness features
Similar to the Apple Watch 6, the Apple Watch 7 comes with all the health-related bells and whistles that make it such a well-rounded smartwatch.
The Apple Watch Series 7 comes with ECG monitoring, sleep monitoring, and oxygen saturation monitoring, alongside hand-washing detection and useful reminders. These features are all great health-related benefits that come with the Apple Watch.
