arc: Microsoft plans for a next-gen Arc mouse that can be closed like a foldable phone – Times of India

Foldable smartphones are slowly gaining traction but it looks like now the focus is turning to other accessories that can be folded to increase portability. TechRadar reports that one of the patents filed by Microsoft states that the tech giant is working on a new foldable Arc mouse.
The previous version of the Arc mouse is quite light, thin and bends a bit while operating, but this new version of the Arc mouse might come with more flexibility where you can close it like a foldable phone, which will be easier to carry. It might look similar to the current Arc mouse but its folding mechanism will make the future accessory look unique, adds the report.
The patent document by Microsoft states, “foldable computer mouse includes a deformable body configurable to be formed into a first expanded configuration usable for receiving inputs for controlling a computing device and a second folded configuration in which a first portion of the deformable body is folded over a second portion of the deformable body.”
The patent document thoroughly explains the inward folding mechanism of the device, but it doesn’t say anything about a scroll wheel like the older devices. It can be assumed that the external design would not be very different. Since the patent is under review, no official confirmation about this device joining Microsoft’s lineup has been disclosed yet.
The new Surface Arc mouse is highly touch-sensitive to help better interaction with the computing device. The first-gen Arc mouse came with almost the same design that had a scroll wheel and click buttons. The latest devices offer a smoother feel and touch compared to the older ones that had a plastic finish.
