ASUS had refreshed its line of gaming laptops with new Intel Tiger Lake-H processors and Nvidia Ampere graphics cards some time ago. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 and ROG Zephyrus M16 are now officially launched in India. They are fairly high-end laptops with top-of-the-line specifications. As expected, they come with an eye-watering price tag, too. Given the absolute state of the PC hardware market, one would be better off buying the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 or ROG Zephyrus M16 instead of the ridiculously overpriced graphics cards. Let’s take a look at what the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 and ROG Zephyrus M16 have in store for us.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 and ROG Zephyrus M16 price in India
The entry-level ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 will cost Rs 1,44,990 in India. The ROG Zephyrus S17 bumps that up to Rs 2,99,990. These prices put it beyond the reach of most people. However, their specifications more or less justify it. Both notebooks will be available for purchase in India sometime in Q3, 2021.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 specifications
As its name suggests, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 ships with a 17.3-inch screen. It comes in two configurations, one with UHD (3,840 × 2,160 aka 4K) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The other version has QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution and refreshes at 165Hz. Both panels have a response time of 3ms and are Pantone validated.
Moving on to the innards, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 ships in only one configuration with an Intel Core i9-11900H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card (125W + 15W TGP) with 16GB VRAM. A TGP of 165W would have been ideal, but the power-hungry Core i9 chipset may have hindered it. The laptop ships with 16GB of DDR4-3,200 RAM, which is expandable up to 48GB. You get one 1TB NVMe SSD out of the box, with the option to add two more.
Other ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 features include an optical-mechanical switch with per-key RGB control, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Input options include one Thunderbolt 4.0 port, one USB Type-C port that can output video and charge the laptop, three USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, one RJ-45 Ethernet jack and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. A 90Wh battery powers the laptop, which weighs a hefty 2.6 KG.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 specifications
While one can configure the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 with high-end hardware, it offers more choice for those on a budget. One can pick between an Intel Core i9-11900H or Core i7-11800H. On the GPU side of things, options range between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 (80W + 20W TGP), the RTX 3060 (80W + 15W TGP) and RTX 3050 Ti (60W + 15W). We wouldn’t recommend selecting the RTX 3070, as its low TGP value will severely hinder performance and needlessly drive up the cost.
Moving on the display, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 ships with a 16:10 panel in two configurations. The 1,920 x 1,200 refreshes at 165Hz, covers 100% of the sRGB spectrum, and has a 3ms response time. However, it is restricted to the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti model, which is a tad disappointing. Moving on, the other SKU has a much higher resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. It refreshes at 165Hz (3ms response time) and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Both variants are Pantone validated.
Everything about the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 is identical to the S17, including its port selection and the battery is identical. There are a few minor downgrades, though. For example, the ROG Zephyrus M16 does not ship with an optical-mechanical keyboard.
