PUBG Mobile was banned in India last September because the Indian government believed that the game was a threat to national security. Now, as you might know, relations between China and India aren’t great at the moment due to ongoing geopolitical tensions. However, Krafton, the game developer, soon revealed its intentions to work with the Indian government to bring PUBG Mobile (Battlegrounds Mobile India) back to the Indian market. It meant that adhering to Indian laws which included storing the data of Battlegrounds Mobile India players on servers located in India. As you might know, Battlegrounds Mobile India was made available to download in India a few days ago, and a general belief is that the data of players is being stored in servers in the country. Well, it looks like that isn’t the case. A new report reveals that Battlegrounds Mobile India is still communicating with servers in China, just like PUBG Mobile.

Battlegrounds Mobile India is sending and receiving data from servers in China

According to a new report from IGN India, Battlegrounds Mobile India Android APK is communicating with servers in China. The publication claims that Battlegrounds Mobile India is sending and receiving data from multiple servers located in China. IGN India installed a data sniffer application on their smartphone and checked with which servers is Battlegrounds Mobile India is communicating. As it turned out, Battlegrounds Mobile India was communicating with China Mobile Communication servers in Beijing, Tencent-run Proxima Beta servers in Hong Kong, and Microsoft Azure servers located in the US, Moscow, and Mumbai.

The Battlegrounds Mobile India website states that the data of its players will be stored and processed in servers located in India and Singapore. However, it also states that the company could “transfer your data to other companies” to meet what it describes as “legal requirements.” This term, in all likeliness, gives the company a way to store data of Battlegrounds Mobile India players in other countries as well, including China. This is exactly what the Indian government was against. Now that the news is out in the open, Battlegrounds Mobile India could risk getting banned in India again. However, there is no such news as of now.
