Bigger batteries coming to iPhone 14 series, Apple doubling down on eSIM tech: Report – Times of India

With less than three days to go for Apple’s Far Out event, there are enough rumours now to get more than a basic idea about the much-awaited smartphones in the iPhone 14 lineup, especially the iPhone 14 Pro. And we are here with another prediction when it comes to the iPhone 14 series.
Bloomberg’s tech journo Mark Gurman, in his latest prediction, has said that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models will ship with bigger batteries. If Apple does bump the battery size of the Pro models, it would mark the second time in a row that the company has increased the battery size. Gurman made the claim in his Power On newsletter, which comes out weekly.

A post on Baidu (via 9To5Mac) also claims that Apple could bump up the battery capacity of both the iPhone 14 and the 14 Pro models. According to the post, the base iPhone 14 model could come with a 3279 mAh battery compared to the iPhone 13 which had a claimed battery capacity of 3227 mAh. In a similar fashion, the 14 Pro could be backed by a 3200 mAh battery, compared to the iPhone 13 Pro’s 3095 mAh.
The post, however, claimed that Apple may skimp on the iPhone 14 Pro Max when it comes to the battery size, the phone consequently having a slightly smaller battery, with a capacity of 4323 mAh compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s 4352 mAh.
From the two claims, it looks like iPhone 14 Pro could surely be the model that gets a bigger battery.
Apple’s eSIM technology push
Gurman also said that the Cupertino-based tech giant is focussing on developing its eSIM technology and may ditch the physical SIM card slot for some models this year or early next year.
“And Apple will give eSIM a bigger push this time around, with carriers preparing to steer users toward the digital, embedded SIM cards rather than physical ones. In fact, Apple has considered removing the physical SIM card slot altogether beginning either this year or next for some models”, said Gurman in his newsletter.
