call of duty: Activision may not bring next mainline Call of Duty game in 2023 – Times of India

American video game developer and publisher Activision may have decided to delay the Call of Duty franchise by a year. As per a report by Bloomberg, Activision has decided not to launch any mainline new Call of Duty game in 2023.
According to Bloomberg, the video game developer has come to this decision due “a recent entry” not performing to expectations. The “recent entry” could very well be Call of Duty Vanguard that was met with lukewarm response when it launched this year.
So, instead of launching a mainline entry in the franchise, Activision has plans for two other Call of Duty games this year, as per the report. These include a free-to-play online Call of Duty title this year and a new game entry due this fall, which will “receive a steady stream of additional content”, said the report.
Call of Duty: Vanguard, the latest in the franchise, has underperformed when it comes to overall sales. The first person shooter launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Battle.net. Vanguard is set during the Second World War and features the stories of four Special Forces Operatives of Task Force 1 in the single player campaign, with the game letting you play as each of the four operators. They are Private Lucas Riggs, 20th Battalion, Australian 9th Infantry Division, British Eighth Army, Sergeant Arthur Kingsley of the 9th Parachute Battalion, British Army, Lieutenant Wade Jackson, Scouting Squadron Six, United States Navy and Lieutenant Polina Petrova of the 138th Rifle Division, Red Army.
Taking a break from Call of Duty mainline entry for a year could help sustain and reinvigorate the interest of the players worldwide. Since Call of Duty is one of the most widely known gaming franchises, it should not hurt the company if it plans to space out the launches.
