CES 2023: Nvidia unveils GeForce RTX 40 series laptop GPUs – Times of India

Nvidia has announced the GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs for laptops at CES 2023. The new RTX 40 series laptop GPUs are based on Ada Lovelace architecture, similar to the RTX 40 series desktop GPUs. With the RTX 40 series, Nvidia has brought the RTX 4090, the first 90-class GPU for laptops.
The GeForce RTX 40 series of laptop GPUs consists of five models – RTX 4090, RTX 4080, RTX 4070, RTX 4060, and RTX 4050.

The RTX 4090 and 4080 will be the first ones to head to the market, marking their availability from February 8, starting at $1,999 (around Rs 1,65,565).
The RTX 4070, 4060, and 4050 will debut on February 22, with prices starting at $999 (around Rs 82,749).

Nvidia says that RTX 4090 and 4080 laptop GPUs offer the thrice efficiency of the previous-generation top-of-the-line laptop GPUs thrice. So, you will get more performance with the newer generation GPUs while consuming less power. The RTX 4070, 4060, and 4050 laptop GPUs promise to deliver the performance of RTX 3080 while consuming one-third less power. Moreover, the new GPUs improve the design, acoustics, and thermal performance.
With Ada architecture and 5th generation Max-Q technology in use, the RTX 40 series GPUs can be fitted inside the 14-inch laptops. The company says that with RTX 40 series GPUs performance of 14-inch laptops can be increased by 20 times.
The new laptop GPUs from Nvidia include Whispermode and Battery Boost 2.0, and these GPUs can dynamically switch between three power modes. Further, these GPUs come with support for DLSS 3, which improves the frame rates by up to 4x while also improving efficiency. Nvidia says that the GPUs can support stream on three 4K displays at 60 frames per second with the top-end RTX 40 series GPUs
The GeForce RTX 4090, 4080 laptop GPUs borrow the new AV1 encoders from the desktop series, enabling 4K 60 fps stream at 10Mbps stream.
