Channels: Mark Zuckerberg launches ‘Channels’ broadcast chat feature for Instagram – Times of India

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook parent Meta, has launched ‘Channels’ – a new broadcast chat feature. The feature will let creators share messages with their followers and engage with them.
Zuckerberg announced the feature by creating a channel and named it “Meta Channel”. Instagram is starting to test channels with select creators in the US today. The company plans to expand the feature in coming months.
“Hey everyone! We’re starting to roll out Instagram channels – a new broadcast chat feature. I’m starting this channel to share news and updates on all the products and tech we’re building at Meta. This will be the place I share Meta product news first,” Zuckerberg said in the channel.

Once a channel is created, those who follow the content creator will be able to join the Channel. “Channels supports text, images, polls, reactions, etc, and soon will support collabs with guest appearances, AMAs and more,” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said the ‘Channels’ feature is being launched on Instagram first, and it will come to Messenger and Facebook in the coming months.
How to create a broadcast channel on Instagram

  1. To start a broadcast channel, iPhone and Android users can tap send or messenger in the top right of their feed.
  2. Tap Channels at the top right corner
  3. Tap Create broadcast channel and give it a name.

Additionally, followers can leave or mute broadcast channels at any time. They also have the ability to control their notifications from creators.
Channels waitlist
Zuckerberg also announced that Meta is getting “lots of interest from people who want to start their own channels.” Those who wish to open Channels can join the waitlist and the company will “let you know when we’re ready to open this more widely soon.”
