China ‘orders’ Xiaomi to remove this feature from its new smartphone

Xiaomi recently launched its flagship phone called the Mi Mix 4 in China. One of the most talked about feature was the anti-theft feature. This feature allows users to find their phone even if the SIM card is taken out. A report by South China Morning Post reveals that the Chinese government has ordered Xiaomi to remove the feature.
The report says that Xiaomi took Weibo to reveal that the feature will be removed. The feature, as per the report, does not comply with relevant rules and didn’t receive approval from Chinese regulators. China has strict regulations over eSIM or virtual SIM technology. Xiaomi didn’t respond with any official statement on the matter.
However, earlier this week at the launch of Mi Mix 4, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi spoke about the now-removed feature. He had said that “Xiaomi as a company has always put special attention to privacy protection for users.”
The Mi Mix 4 is a flagship phone from the Chinese tech giant. The key highlights of the Mi Mix 4 include an under-display front camera, “Point to Connect” Ultra Wide Band, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G Mobile Platform, 120W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and more.
Running on MIUI 12.5-based Android operating system, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 smartphone offers a display of 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED 3D curved display of 2400xx1080p resolution with 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 smartphone comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC. On the storage front, the device offers 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 has a triple-camera setup on the back. The primary camera is a 108MP sensor (f/1.95 aperture) along with a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP periscope camera. The 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera is equipped with an optical free-form lens that is claimed to lower wide-angle distortion. The 8MP periscope sensor supports 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom.
