Google is making a small branding change to Chrome OS, its Linux-based operating system designed for Chromebook devices. Google’s senior director of marketing for ChromeOS, James Croom has confirmed to The Verge that they have rebranded the Chrome OS as ChromeOS. The only difference here is that they have dropped the space between the word Chrome and OS.
As per the report, the changes are already live on ChromeOS’ dev page. However, the letter ‘C’ appears to be in lowercase.
Apart from that, nothing has changed, the logo and features, everything remains the same as before.
Back in March, we reported that a new source code suggest that the company is reportedly planning to rebrand the Chrome OS by dropping the space and now, the changes are official and is now live at some places. However, the official ChromeOS page still shows the older logo.
There has always been some inconsistency when it comes to ChromeOS name. There are places where it has been mentioned as Chrome OS (two words). That has also led to a topic of debate among users.
However, it is finally clear that ChromeOS will be referred as one word going forward.
Previous reports also suggested that the company will be rebranding the Chromium OS as ChromiumOS. However, nothing of that sort has happened as of now. The Chromium OS is still mentioned as two words almost everywhere we checked.
