Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) recently issued a warning for Google Chrome users. The government body has reported that they’ve found a new vulnerability in Google Chrome which can allow attackers to target the host system.
The government body has categorised this vulnerability as ‘high severity’ and has reported that the vulnerability can allow “remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system”.
Who all are affected
According to the report, users using Google Chrome versions prior to 107.0.5304.121 for Mac and Linux and Google Chrome versions prior to 107.0.5304.121/.122 for Windows are affected by the vulnerability.
Why does the vulnerability exist in Google Chrome?
CERT-In has reported that “this vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to Heap buffer overflow in GPU. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request on the targeted system.”
The government body further added, “Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.

CERT-In has advised Google Chrome users running the above-mentioned versions to apply the latest security patch urgently.
Thankfully, Google has recently rolled out a new update for Google Chrome that includes the fix for the vulnerability found by CERT-In. It is advisable that users should update their Chrome browser right away.
How to update the Chrome browser
To update the Google Chrome browser on your device, click on the three-dot menu present at the top right of the page. Here, search and click on Settings. Look for About Chrome on your left side. Click on it. This will show if a new update is available for Chrome on your device. If the update is available, click on Update. Once updated, relaunch the browser to install the latest version of Chrome browser.
