chromebooks: HP, Lenovo may be working on Chromebooks with RGB keyboard, this is what it means – Times of India

HP is reportedly planning to launch a Chromebook with RGB lighting keyboard under its Omen lineup. According to a report by 9to5Google, Google has been preparing its operating system for gaming-specific PCs for quite some time. The report suggests that Google is working on a project codenamed ‘Borealis’ that aims to ensure that Steam and various Linux-compatible PC games run smoothly on Chromebooks. Although Steam has not officially revealed any information about the same, the report claims that the work under the project is work in progress.
As per the changes spotted in the Chrome OS, the tech giant is working to get support for full colour RGB keyboards on Chromebooks. A new feature flag that supports the plan has also been discovered recently. According to the report, this will allow users to individually customise the intensity of the red, green, and blue for each key as per their liking. Users may also be able to adjust the overall backlit brightness of the keyboard.
Based on analysis of hardware code names associated with RGB keyboards such as Vell, Taniks and Ripple, the report suggests that HP and Lenovo may launch gaming Chromebooks under their lineup of performance laptops. It is not yet known when we may see these gaming Chromebook but the report suggests that Google may publicly announce its entry into gaming space with Chrome OS-based device soon.
Currently, there are very few performance based Chromebooks available in the market. Although the market share of the Chrome OS is small compared to Windows or macOS, it has been becoming popular among the new laptop buyers primarily due to its ability to run Android apps.
