ChromeOS might soon get Android 12’s Material You dynamic colour theming – Times of India

Last year, with Android 12, Google introduced the third iteration of its material design language – Material You – and the dynamic colour is one of the biggest highlights of the new design language. Google’s dynamic colour experience picks the colour theme of the system based on the wallpaper. Now, this dynamic colour might soon be coming to Chromebooks.
9to5Google found a new flag referencing the Chromium Gerrit implying the addition of Material You in the upcoming iterations of ChromeOS. The description for the flag “ChromeOS Material Next MVP” reads “, When enabled, runs ChromeOS in Material Next MVP mode.” If you don’t know, Google uses Material Next internally as a codename for Material You design language. And the MVP is an acronym for “Minimum Viable Product,” which means that Google is still working on bringing Material You to ChromeOS and has a basic prototype.
ChromeOS’ dynamic colour experience might be a little different from Android 12
There have been discussions going on to change the flag’s name and description to focus on Material You’s dynamic colours since that is what it is bringing to the table. The flag when enabled would add a “colour mixer” in the ChromeOS, suggesting that the colours might not be based on the wallpaper like the Android 12.
As of now, there’s nothing to change theme colours in ChromeOS. But the addition of dynamic colours could make ChromeOS fun. However, we are not sure when or how this feature will be implemented in ChromeOS. We might get to see a glimpse of it in the next ChromeOS Canary build.
