DigiLocker app has new services; from pension certificates, licences, exam results – Times of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched DigiLocker a few years ago as a part to push the Digital India initiative in the country. The document wallet has since expanded its services and now it is being used by millions of Indians for storing their documents such as driving licences, ration cards, aadhar cards, marksheets, and vehicle registrations, among others. The digital locker service has now introduced another assistance that will help senior citizens in the country.
What is DigiLocker
In simple terms, DigiLocker is a website or digital space (just like your cupboard) where you can store your various government issued documents. An Aadhaar card is needed as your identification.
This cloud storage service has been created by the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) under Digital India Corporation (DIC). It makes all your government-issued IDs available to you at all times, provided you have an Internet connection.

Pension certificates through DigiLocker
The digital platform has been issuing pension certificates for some time now. In the latest development, Bank of Maharashtra will now issue pension certificates to the elderly. The move is aimed to bring convenience for the senior citizens of the country.
How to get your pension certificate from DigiLocker
There are only a few steps involved in getting your pension certificate.

  • Login to your account on the web or from the app on your smartphone. You will be asked for your aadhar number/ phone number and a 6-digit security pin to sign-in. You will get an OTP that will give you access to your locker.
  • After log-in, look for “Bank of Maharashtra Pension Certifications in the carousel” or go to “Search Documents” in the menu present in the extreme left side of the website.
  • Type “pension document” and you will get multiple options. Choose “Bank of Maharashtra”.
  • After clicking the link from the carousel or from the list, you will get a small form wherein you will have to enter the pensioner’s date of birth and PPO number.
  • Click on the checkmark below the PPO number row to “provide consent to DigiLocker to share my details with the Issuers for the purpose of fetching my documents.”
  • Once done, click on “Get Document” and it will be made available to you.

Apart from this, DigiLocker has offered a few other new services. These new services include getting car insurance, water bill (in Jammu and Kashmir), and Udyam certificate, among others.
Users can also pull their Aadhaar Card details, SSC as well as HSC marksheets, driving licence details, cast and income certificates, and even Covid-19 vaccination certificates, among other government IDs to store them at one consolidated place.
Results on DigiLocker
Recently, DigiLocker provided the facility to school students to check their CBSE Class 10 and 12 results. Students just had to punch in their roll number and year and the results appeared on the screens.
DigiLocker on WhatsApp
Earlier this year, WhatsApp users in India were given access to DigiLocker using the government’s MyGov Helpdesk chatbot. If you want to access your documents, send a message saying “DigiLocker” at +91-9013151515 on the messaging app. It will bring options to let users create and authenticate their DigiLocker account as well as download documents
As per the data on the DigiLocker website, the number of users have risen exponentially from 20125 to 2022. Currently, 128.38 million Indians use the services and they have issued about 5.6 billion documents on the digital service.
