Diwali 2022: Apple iPhone 14 Pro camera features to improve photography for this year’s festival of lights

The country is set to celebrate Diwali tomorrow (October 24). To make this Diwali more memorable, Apple has shared some tips and tricks from top photographers that iPhone owners can use. The Cupertino giant launched the iPhone 14 Pro series with the first-ever 48MP camera last month. This new camera can help users to take beautiful photos with the latest iPhone 14 Pro series smartphones. Here are some photography tips and tricks shared by the company.
Diwali photography tips for iPhone 14 Pro users
The primary camera on the newly launched iPhone 14 and 14 Pro series smartphones allows users to shoot 48MP photos in ProRAW and includes 2x Telephoto that offers a total of four zoom options. The new Photonic Engine helps in the low-light performance and the Cinematic mode now records 4K videos at 24 frames per second. Meanwhile, the Action mode now helps in more stabilised videos recorded in Dolby Vision HDR.
The 48MP main camera sensor in iPhone 14 Pro models is 65% larger than the one on iPhone 13 Pro. The new sensor is built with Apple’s second-generation sensor-shift OIS which helps in producing stunning photos and videos. The image quality performance has also increased to deliver a more efficient design capable of supporting an even larger sensor which can be ideal for festive photography.
The Ultra Wide camera now has 100% Focus Pixels and a new sensor that is near twice the size of the iPhone 13 Pro. This improves image quality and boosts lower-light performance. Along with the Photonic Engine, it delivers up to 3x better low-light photos and amazing Macro shots.
iPhone 14 Pro also supports an additional 2x Telephoto for photos and videos at 48mm focal length by using the middle 12MP of the new quad-sensor. This focal length is also great for Portrait mode, which now supports foreground blur for better shots. This Telephoto uses the main camera features like — 1.22μm pixels, fast ƒ/1.78 aperture, second-generation sensor-shift OIS, and 100% Focus Pixels. The Telephoto camera also allows 3x zoom with a 77mm focal length.
The TrueDepth front camera in iPhone 14 Pro models can focus from multiple distances which helps group shots to stay in focus irrespective of the distance. This camera has a faster f/1.9 aperture for a 38% increase in low light for photos and videos and with TrueDepth capabilities, it can focus even faster in low light.
For videos, the cinematic mode offers beautiful depth-of-field effects for users to capture cinema-style moments. It supports 4K resolution up to 30 fps, ideal for capturing videos of family or group celebrations.
The Action mode offers smooth and steady videos and can be activated with a toggle in the video mode. It uses increased overscan and advanced roll correction to help keep the horizon level despite significant motion and shakes. This mode supports up to 2.8K resolution and 60 fps and can be combined with Dolby Vision or ProRes recording. The Action mode even offers smooth videos even without extra gears like a gimbal.
Tips from pro photographers
AFP photographer Chandan Khanna recommends using different lenses for varying subjects. For pictures of sweets, use a wide camera with a Macro lens. Users can also extra sharp low-depth portraits in low light with the help of decorative lights for colourful effects on the photo. While the zoom lens is for taking pictures of firecrackers from a distance.
