There are quite a few alternatives out there, such as OEM-backed stores (Huawei App Gallery, Samsung’s Galaxy Store), third-party storefronts (Aptoide, Amazon AppStore), and simple repositories (F-Droid, APKMirror).

So why would you want to use these app stores, then? Well, for one, you can download the numerous apps Google has banned from the Play Store. We’ve also seen some apps being exclusive to one store, such as Fortnite on the Galaxy Store at launch. App stores like F-Droid are also attractive storefronts for people who only want free and open-source apps. Finally, some phones (such as Huawei models) lack access to the Play Store out-of-the-box, forcing you to use the OEM app store instead.
