EE fixes a big irritation when using new iPhone and Android devices

All of the latest greatest smartphones from Apple, Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi now feature 5G technology. This latest network upgrade is capable of beaming downloads to devices at speeds in excess of 300Mbps – that’s around five times faster than the average UK fixed-line broadband can muster.

5G is definitely the future of phones and EE is hoping to make it even better by introducing enhanced coverage thanks to a wider 700MHz spectrum. This upgrade will make the signal stronger and will bring a better connection when customers are using their devices indoors.

As EE explains, “700MHz is new to 5G services in the UK but already used extensively in Europe, and is supported on recent key customer handsets, including the iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy S21. It will support wider and deeper 5G coverage, including indoors, and help deliver better capacity overall.”

With many of us still working from home, this update should mean your shiny new smartphone works just as well in the home office as it does on your morning commute.

EE has confirmed that the initial rollout of this service will begin in Redditch, Morecambe and Cramlington.

It’s then thought more areas will follow in the coming months.

Speaking about the change David Salam, Director of Mobile at EE, said: “As the UK’s best network, we continue to look for ways to provide our customers with the best 5G service possible. By further enhancing the indoor 5G coverage we provide, we’re helping boost the experience for those with the latest smartphones, allowing them to get the most from them in more places across the UK.”

News of this change comes as Apple has just announced the launch of its new 5G-ready iPhone 13 range.

The company lifted the lid on these new flagship devices which include the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

All get an improved camera – that now features a Cinematic Mode for Hollywood-style videos – plus there’s more storage, better battery life and a smaller notch.

If you opt for the Pro models you’ll get a better display that now includes a 120Hz refresh rate for super-smooth scrolling.

The iPhone 13 range will be available to pre-order from this Friday with prices staying the same as last year’s models.
