Elon Musk loses $200 billion, Twitter sued for not paying rent and all that’s happening at the company – Times of India

Elon Musk likes being in the news, and news too seems to love the Twitter CEO. A lot happened at the company in just a few months before the calendar flipped to welcome 2023. Musk reportedly became the first person to lose $200 billion in net worth, the company was sued for not paying rent for its San Francisco office and the social media giant announced that it banned close to 50,000 accounts for policy violations in India.
Musk loses $200 billion in net worth
As per a report by Bloomberg, the Tesla and Twitter CEO has become the first person ever to lose $200 billion from his net worth – something he wouldn’t have liked to be remembered for. While this would purportedly upset some businessmen, Musk is still making jokes and reacting to memes on the microblogging platform.
Musk became the richest person in the world in January 2021 with a net worth of more than $185 billion. His fortune peaked at $340 billion on November 4, 2021, and now his wealth has dropped to $137 billion following a recent drop in Tesla shares.

Twitter sued for not paying office rent
Twitter has reportedly been sued for allegedly failing to pay the rent for its San Francisco office. Citing the court filings, CBS News reports that Twitter has not paid a rent of $136,260 (roughly Rs 1.12 crore) and is being sued by the landlord of the Hartford Building – Columbia Reit – 650 California LLC.
The office, which is on the 30th floor of the building, was recently in the news because some of its conference rooms were converted into bedrooms for employees to sleep there.
Twitter bans accounts in India
Twitter has banned a total of 48,624 accounts in India between October 26 and November 25, the company said in its monthly report in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021.

Out of these, 45,589 accounts were removed for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity and took down 3,035 accounts for promoting terrorism on its platform in India. Furthermore, the social media platform also processed 22 grievances which were appealing account suspensions.
Bring your own toilet paper
In a move seen as another cost cutting measure, Musk’s Twitter has reportedly laid off janitors after they went on a strike for higher pay. This has forced the remaining employees to bring their own toilet papers to the “smelly office”, a report by the New York Times said.
The lack of janitors has “left the office in disarray,” with bathrooms that have “grown dirty” and persistent odours of “leftover takeout food and body odour,” the report said citing sources familiar with the situation as saying.
Musk trolls Andrew Tate
Social media personality Andrew Tate was in the news after he was “roasted” by environmental activist Greta Thunberg after the content creator sarcastically tweeted that he owns a huge number of cars and their massive carbon emissions.

Thunberg’s comment didn’t go down well with Tate and he shared a video of himself saying the activist “needs to get a life”. He then asks someone to hand him over a box of pizza and says he won’t recycle this one. Tate was later detained, and following his detection, Musk tweeted, “Sometimes it’s just better to make pizza at home.” The tweet seems to be directed towards Tate.
