Elon Musk says Twitter can help if you ‘love trashing accounts’ – Times of India

Elon Musk-owned Twitter has been working on recommendations for some time now. Recently, Musk said that the social media company will publish a tweet recommendation code in a month and now he’s back with some more information on the same.
Musk tweeted on Tuesday (January 17) that if Twitter users like trashing accounts that they hate, they will now be shown more of those accounts on Twitter. Actually, he was setting a base for the recommendation algorithm explanation.
“Trashing accounts that you hate will cause our algorithm to show you more of those accounts, as it is keying off of your interactions,” he said, adding, “Basically saying if you love trashing ‘that’ account, then you will probably also love trashing ‘this’ account. Not actually wrong lol.”

Twitter Recommendations
Last year, Twitter announced that it wants to “ensure everyone on Twitter sees the best content on the platform,” and for that, it is expanding Recommendations to all users, “including those who may not have seen them in the past.” The feature or functionality will help Twitter users to discover the conversations and accounts that interest them the most.
“Recommendations are designed to enrich your Twitter experience, and the more you know about them, the better they can be,” the company explained in a blog post.
When a user said that Twitter is being pushy after she “only liked 2 World Cup tweets” and the platform “keeps showing me sports ALL the time in all trending topics from 1 to 20+.”

Musk replied to her saying, “The recommendation algorithm will get much better and it will be open source.”
How Recommendations are shown on Twitter
As Musk mentioned, Twitter relies on its algorithms to offer personalised suggestions to users based on actions, called Signals, they take on Twitter. These actions include things like topics of interest users follow and tweets they engage with.
“Based on these signals and more, we’ll show you content we think you’ll be interested in,” Twitter says.
