Eve’s newest smart home devices are launching with Matter out of the box
TL;DR
- New versions of the Eve Energy, Eve Motion, and Eve Door and Window are launching March 28.
- All three smart home products will ship with Matter support instead of requiring firmware updates.
- Matter means they’ll be instantly compatible with all major smart home platforms.
Smart home accessory maker Eve Systems is rolling out its first accessories with Matter support baked in. These include updates of its Eve Energy smart plug and two sensors: the Eve Motion and Eve Door and Window. All three accessories will ship to the US on March 28, with prices of $39.95 for the Energy and $49.95 for each sensor.
Matter, for those unfamiliar, is a universal protocol meant to break down the barriers between smart home platforms. Accordingly, Eve’s new products will work with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. Until recently Eve primarily supported HomeKit — but the company has become aggressive about Matter, which the Connectivity Standards Alliance launched in October 2022 after years of delays.
Since the protocol is so new, relatively few accessories support it. Those that do are typically getting it through firmware updates. In fact, Eve announced that it’s preparing a Matter update for all MotionBlinds smart blinds by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
It’s meanwhile preparing to launch more MotionBlinds products on the same day as its new plug and sensors. These include Honeycomb and Venetian options, and the $199.95 Eve MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit for Roller Blinds, which won’t support Matter right away but will work with HomeKit and Thread.
