Explained: Difference between PlayStation Stars and PlayStation Plus – Times of India
What is PlayStation Stars
Sony’s PlayStation Stars is a free rewards and loyalty program that helps gamers to earn loyalty points for completing in-game goals and even for trying out certain titles. Gamers can redeem their loyalty points from their respective PlayStation Network (PSN) wallet funds and Sony has already started rolling out this service for Asian users.
The PlayStation Stars loyalty program also offers special awards to players who can complete all the in-game achievements. Apart from this, the loyalty program also offers digital collectables which are not NFTs. These 3D-rendered rewards are based on special video game characters and old Sony hardware. The loyalty program has also started offering better customer service as a reward for top members.
What is PlayStation Plus
Previously, Sony used to offer two subscription services — PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. Later, the company combined these two services into the three-tiered PlayStation Plus subscriptions which were introduced in June.
The latest PlayStation Plus subscriptions are available in three different tiers — PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium. These three tiers of subscription are available at different prices and each tier comes with special features for PlayStation users.
PlayStation Plus vs PlayStation Stars: Which one should you get
As PlayStation Stars is a free reward program so users don’t need to decide about signing up for the loyalty program. Meanwhile, the PlayStation Plus subscription is a paid service which is important for playing games online.
Players who are not into online gaming will also need one of these subscriptions to even play the classic games offline. PlayStation users should also note that they can earn additional PlayStation Store points if they are subscribed to both services.
