Explained: Google Meet 360-degree background, how it works and more – Times of India
Alongside the new In-meeting reactions that allow users to send emoji reactions in-between ongoing meetings, Google has also confirmed a new 360-degree background feature for Meet. The feature allows users to add a 360-degree custom background instead of the regular wallpaper-based background.
Wondering what is this feature and how it works? Read on to find out.
What is 360-degree background on Meet
360-degree background on Google Meet is a new background wallpaper feature that uses a 360-degree view to give an immersive meeting experience. If you’ve ever replaced the background during a Google Meet call, you know that it currently allows users to replace the background with a wallpaper that acts as the background for your video frame. Now, this feature was immersive, however, it lacked accuracy and often appeared fake. The 360-degree backgrounds are supposed to fix those problems.
How does Google Meet’s 360-degree background works?
According to Google, the 360-degree background combine videos and the device’s gyroscope that determines the device’s orientation to create a more immersive Meet experience. Currently, the backgrounds that will be included are beach, oasis, sky city and mountain temple will arrive later.
When it will be available
Google will start rolling out the new 360-degree background in the coming days. The feature will arrive first on the Android and iOS platforms globally to consumers and paid users.
For those unaware, Google has completed the Duo to Meet merger. That means the Google Duo app is now available as Meet on both Android and iOS. The company has confirmed that starting January 17, people using the original version of the Meet ap on Android and iOS will begin to see in-product notifications prompting them to switch to the updated Meet app.
