Facebook DOWN: Server status latest as Messenger and Facebook App stop working
Reports of Facebook servers being down again have started being posted online again today.
The good news is that the number of those social media users affected by the current issues is much smaller than the outage that forced the digital giant offline earlier this week.
But there are still thousands of reports coming in from users unable to use the social media site’s core features, such as uploading new pictures, writing statuses and using the Facebook Messenger app.
One affected Facebook user writes: “Here we go again, FB website won’t come up, then it comes up, but only shows a partial timeline of posts nothing else loads. Messenger won’t load, then it loads, then turns all black. I think this is a long spiral dive toward the end of FB.”
Another user adds: “Facebook Messenger won’t send pictures or texts, and the FB feed won’t load like it’s supposed to.”
It’s unclear what is causing tonight’s Facebook outage or how long it might take for servers to return to normal.
A huge outage earlier this week, which was caused by a router issue inside the Californian social media firm, left users across the country unable to send or receive messages in Facebook Messenger, check their social media feed, text on Facebook-owned WhatsApp or share photos on Instagram. The problems started on October 4, 2021 and continued for hours.
Speaking about the outage, a Facebook spokesperson said: “To everyone who was affected by the outages on our platforms today: we’re sorry. We know billions of people and businesses around the world depend on our products and services to stay connected. We appreciate your patience as we come back online.”
At the peak of the outage, Down Detector UK – a service that tracks outages by monitoring complaints on social media – recorded more than 50,000 reports of problems at Facebook every minute. While the independent outage monitor has also registered a peak of more than 8,000 Messenger down reports.
