Facebook launches its first-generation smart glasses – Times of India
Facebook in partnership with Ray-Ban has launched its first-generation smart glasses. Aimed to offer true augmented reality experience, the glasses allow wearers to listen to music, take calls and even capture photos or videos. The smart glasses are called Ray-Ban Stories.
Ray-Ban Stories: Price
Ray-Ban Stories come with a starting price of $299 (approx. Rs 22,000). Buyers will be able to choose from 20 combinations of frame/lens styles from the frames Ray-Ban offers Wayfarer, Round or Meteor. They are also available with Polarised (starting at $329), Transitions lenses ($379) and prescription (varied pricing).
The smart glasses will be available in 6 countries including the US, UK, Canada, Italy, Ireland and Australia. They can be purchased via select Ray-Ban stores and Ray-Ban.com.
Ray-Ban Stories: Specifications
Facebook’s smart glasses lets one capture photos and videos (up to 30 seconds). It is equipped with dual 5MP cameras on the front of the frames. A capture LED lights up when the cameras are on to notify those around that photography or recording is taking place.
Users can simply say “Hey Facebook, take a photo [or video]” to click photos. They can edit photos captured on Ray-Ban Stories using the Facebook View companion app and share them with others. The photos can be shared on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat and other apps.
The smart glasses also has a built-in Bluetooth and 3-microphone audio array to listen to favourite media, music and podcasts from any app on the smartphone. One can also take calls using the smart glass.
Facebook says that Ray-Ban Stories are designed with privacy in mind. “We’re taking steps to make sure device owners–and the people around them–feel comfortable, safe, and informed”, it says.
