Facebook Messenger to soon get this security feature

Meta has announced some new features coming to its chat app Messenger. Along with this, the company has also confirmed that it will soon bring end-to-end encryption by default. The company claims that this new update will bring the best user experience to the Messenger app.
End-to-End Encrypted Backups on Messenger
One of the important features which will soon come to the Messenger app is end-to-end encryption. The company revealed that it has started testing a feature called secure storage. The feature will backup the messages and will keep them secure in case you lose your phone or want to restore your message history on a new, supported device. “Secure storage means that we won’t have access to your messages, unless you choose to report them to us,” adds the company.
There will be two end-to-end encrypted options for accessing your backups: either create a PIN or generate a code, both of which you’ll need to save. You can also choose to restore your Messenger conversations via third-party cloud services.
“We’re starting to test secure storage this week on Android and iOS, but this feature isn’t yet available on www.messenger.com, Messenger for desktop or chats that aren’t end-to-end encrypted,” Meta said in a blog post.
Apart from the secure storage feature, Meta also announced some features for the Messenger app. The company has introduced a security feature called Code Verify. It is an open source web browser extension that is available on Chrome, FireFox and Microsoft Edge. It automatically verifies the authenticity of the code when using www.messenger.com. This will let you confirm the effectiveness of our end-to-end encryption security by showing that your web code hasn’t been tampered with or altered.
