file explorer: Microsoft announces tabs for Windows 11 File Explorer – Times of India

Microsoft has dropped a new blog post on its official website announcing some new features and upcoming capabilities of the Windows 11 operating system. The post talks about new capabilities like improvements to hybrid work and features like improvements to video calling tools, improved phishing detection and protection built into Windows with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen and more.
In addition to all these new features, the company has also announced changes to File Explorer as well. The Fire Explorer will be going through some changes and it might be its biggest redesign since its inception.
According to the post, File Explorer will be getting – Tabs. The tabs for File Explorer have been in testing for a while in the Insider Build and now, the company has officially confirmed it.
The post highlights the new tabs feature as a way to keep all the files in a centralised location for easy access to them. The video demo posted on the blog post shows that users can right-click and choose ‘Add to Favourites’ to pin a particular window and then click on the + icon at the top to open a new tab, something similar to the web browsers.
Meanwhile, this feature of pinning a particular to have easy access to them is already there in the current File Explorer as Quick Access option on the left side panel. However, the addition of tabs along with the Quick Access panel can go a long way and make using File Explorer much simpler and more convenient than it ever was.
