The online marketplace Flipkart has announced a handling fee for its cash on delivery orders. When a user chooses cash on delivery (COD) option, the Flipkart mobile app and website reflects that the e-tailer will now charge Rs 5 as a nominal fee. “Due to handling costs, a nominal fee of Rs 5 will be charged for orders placed using this option. Avoid these fee by paying online now,” says the message that appears on the Flipkart app.
These delivery charges may vary with each seller. “Sellers incur relatively higher shipping costs on low value items. In such cases, charging a nominal delivery charge helps them offset logistics costs. Please check your order summary to understand the delivery charges for individual products,” says the etailer.

“For Products listed as Flipkart Plus, a Rs 40 charge for delivery per item may be applied if the order value is less than Rs 500. While, orders of Rs 500 or above are delivered free,” reads a Flipkart web page.
In COD orders, users can pay in cash at the time of the delivery of the product at their doorstep, without requiring them to make any advance payment online.
On Flipkart, the maximum order value for a COD payment is Rs 50,000. “It is strictly a cash-only payment method. Gift Cards or store credit cannot be used for C-o-D orders. Foreign currency cannot be used to make a C-o-D payment. Only Indian Rupees accepted,” says the company.
