Former iPhone hacker whom Elon Musk hired to ‘fix’ Twitter search resigns

Amid a lot of sackings and resignations last month, Elon Musk hired a former iPhone hacker, George Hotz, to fix Twitter’s search problem. Hotz was hired for 12 weeks but he resigned just before he completed 4 weeks at the social media website.
“Resigned from Twitter today. Appreciate the opportunity, but didn’t think there was any real impact I could make there. Besides, it was sad to see my GitHub withering. Back to coding!” Hotz tweeted. When asked whether he has any regrets after resigning, the intern denied saying that he is “still rooting for the success of Twitter 2.0!”

Hotz had been teasing his departure from the company for a few days now. He recently posted a Twitter poll in Musk-esque style asking his followers whether he should “step down as a Twitter intern?” He also seemingly took a jibe at Musk saying that he “will abide by the results of this poll. Not a joke.” Over 63% of people voted that he should not step down as an intern.

Not “having lasting impact”, says Hotz
A Twitter user said that he was being used by Musk and in the end, his contributions to Twitter would not mean “very little”. Hotz replied saying that he was an adult, capable of making his own choices. He, however, “questions if I can have any lasting impact here.”
Hotz also made fun of Twitter banning links to other social media platforms. “Btw follow me on Instagram in case I get banned here, you know how to find me. If saying that is banned, this isn’t somewhere I want to be anymore. That’s so far from free speech,” he tweeted earlier this week.

Who is George Hotz?
Hotz became famous for jailbreaking iPhones and reverse engineering Sony Playstation 3. He has also worked as a self-driving car developer. He was reportedly asked by Twitter to join the company after he supported Musk’s “extremely hardcore” email.
“This is the attitude that builds incredible things. Let all the people who don’t desire greatness leave,” Hotz said. He also offered his services to Musk in another tweet to which Musk replied, “Sure, let’s talk.”
