Four weeks and counting: The ‘waiting’ time to buy iPhone 14 Pro models – Times of India

Are you planning to buy a new iPhone 14 Pro or even 14 Pro Max? You may have to wait for 4 weeks, or even more, no matter where you buy it. And there is a big reason behind this ‘long’ wait.
“COVID-19 restrictions have temporarily impacted the primary iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility located in Zhengzhou, China,” said Apple in a press release. But there is more to this.
You will have to wait for more than 4 weeks for a new iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
Counterpoint Research, in its recent report, says that the average wait time for the iPhone 14 Pro models is 37 days, which totals up to around five weeks, meaning that you will not get an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max before mid-January. Meanwhile, in India, if you are buying an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, you will have to wait for at least four weeks.
iPhone 14 Pro shortage due to protests in the ‘iPhone City’
Earlier this month, violent protests broke out at the Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou, stirring the assembly line for the past few weeks. Though the situation is now easing, things have not returned to normalcy.
Kuo, in his recent note, says that the assembly line at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant is currently running at 20 per cent capacity. This ‘iPhone City’ plant is estimated to account for 70 per cent of iPhone shipments across the world. So, it is understandable why there is such a long wait for iPhones, especially iPhone Pros.
Foxconn has given 10 per cent of its orders for the iPhone Pros to Pegatron and Luxshare ICT, but these two are not expected to begin shipments before late December.
The broil at the Foxconn facility, a prolonged lockdown in the ‘iPhone City,’ delaying shipments, and stronger demand for iPhone 14 Pros can be attributed to more than 4 weeks of wait time for a new iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.
No wait for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
Meanwhile, the two vanilla iPhone 14 models are available without much wait. The two models – iPhone 14 and 14 Plus – are available as soon as the next day.
The reason behind this could be weaker than expected demand, as indicated by analysts. Thus Apple may have some surplus stock for the iPhone 14 and 14 Max. Also, since some of the assembly has moved out of China for the iPhone 14, thus the turmoil in Zhengzhouz does not seem to have impacted the production of these two iPhone 14 models.
