Freesat finally updated to include a feature Freeview has enjoyed for years

Freesat viewers can now take advantage of the BBC Connected Red Button to unlock extra content from the Euros 2020, Wimbledon, and the Olympics. The BBC Connected Red Button, sometimes known as Red Button+, has been available on Smart TVs and other internet-connected set-top boxes for some time. However, those with Freesat boxes have missed out.

With the latest update, Freesat viewers will be able to access a truckload of extras from the Beeb. Pressing the red button on your remote during select shows will surface extra information about what you’re watching, bonus videos, and even quizzes.

That’s all good fun. However, the boosted red button gets even more useful when watching live sports coverage.

At the click of a button, Freesat viewers will unlock exclusive content around the Euros, the Olympics, and Wimbledon. That includes highlights from past fixtures, the latest headlines around the tournaments, live streams of additional coverage, scores and results.

Better yet, everything will appear as an overlay over the channel you’re currently watching – so you don’t miss a second. So, you’ll be able to check the results from one discipline while watching another live during the Olympics this summer.

To use the Connected Red Button, you’ll need to ensure your Freesat 4K TV Box is connected to your home broadband. This can be handled over Wi-Fi or ethernet cable, if you’d rather.
